FALL 2011 NEWSLETTER

You know that Fall is coming when all the new Fall yarns start appearing on the shelves -- we got a ton of
new yarns in this season. Chunky yarns are in – and we have them in all sorts of fibers and colors. One
gal at TNNA told me that laceweight was going to be the “new sock yarn”, so I made sure to get lots of
laceweight yarns in all different fibers and colors. Oh, and sock yarn – I bought so much, I don’t know
where to put it all. Of course, there’s also lots of new beautiful worsted yarns in every fiber imaginable
and new DK and sport weight too. Lots of great new patterns – I hear that ponchos are back in style…
So, here’s a rundown of yarns and new classes.
YARNS
Aracaunia - Coliumo Multy is a chunky 3 st/inch wool/silk blend and Lauca is worsted weight
wool/silk/camel blend in beautiful variegated colors. Great scarves, hats, sweaters, anything knitted or
crocheted in these yarns.
Artyarns new Silk Rhapsody Glitter Light a DK weight, 400 yards of luscious mohair and silk with a hint
of glitz
Aslan Trends has a new llama/silk blend yarn, King, that is incredibly soft. It knits at a gauge of 5
st/inch and will make the yummiest neckwarmers
Berroco has outdone themselves this time. New yarns we brought in from their collection: Voyage, a light
and airy chained construction alpaca/nylon blend that knits at 3.5 st/inch; Nanuk, a wool/nylon blend of plush
luxury; Souffle, a 2 st/inch multi-colored chained wool/alpaca/acrylic blend that knits up no time. There
are pattern books for each yarn and of course, Norah Gaughan’s 9th collection. New colors for Flicker – an
alpaca/nylon blend with a hint of metallic. New colors in all the Vintage , Ultra Alpaca and Peruvia Quick
lines as well.
Brown Sheep has new Naturespun Chunky – I’m thinking great Einstein jacket yarn as it knits at 3.25-3.5
/inch – 100% wool.
Cascade new from Cascade is Sitka, a 4 st/inch merino/mohair blend in natural colors. Please keep in mind
that Cascade 220 is going up in price. After Labor Day a skein will cost $8.95, so stock up now!
Classic Elite ‘s new yarns—Vista - an alpaca/wool blend 5st/in, Vail – alpaca/bamboo fingering weight,
Toboggan- merino/alpaca super bulky yarn at 2.25 st/inch. As always, great pattern support for these
yarns as well as LaGran, Montera, Silky Alpaca, Kumara and Liberty Print.
Colinette – Brought in their Ab Fab afghan kits. We have one on display, as well as tons of Jitterbug sock
yarn.
Debbie Bliss – in addition to the Cashmerino Baby and Aran weights we now have Rialto DK, a superwash
merino that knits like a dream. Her new yarns are Riva, a chunky variegated wool/acrylic blend at 3.5
st/inch, Paloma, a supersoft wool/alpaca blend that knits at 3-4st/inch and Angel, a superkid mohair/silk
blend. And, of course, Debbie Bliss has wonderful patterns to go with the yarns. Her new Fall magazine
just arrived as well.
Dream in Color – new Smooshy with Cashmere sock yarn in addition to Smooshy sock yarn.
Elsebeth Lavold –Silky Wool has become a standard. This DK weight silk/wool blend comes in lots of
yummy colors.
Imperial Yarns – Tracie is their newest yarn. It’s a sportweight mulespun 100% wool yarn – fresh from the
farm.
Knit One, Crochet Too – Meadow Silk is a wool/silk blend that promises not to pill @ 4.75 stitches to the
inch; Ty-Dy Superkid – a laceweight kid mohair/wool/nylon blend in ty dy colors; Ty Dy Socks now has
Skinny Stripes and of course, all the great patterns from K1C2.
Lana Grossa – Lace Lux yarn – a laceweight merino/viscose blend that glitters; Fumato is a
merino/alpaca/nylon worsted weight yarn that is light as a feather and has tons of yardage and Lei . a
superbulky merino –size 15 or 17 will knit a hat or scarf in no time
Lang – Tosca Light is a light worsted yarn with a subtle color gradiation and tons of yardage.
Louisa Harding – I could not resist the new Grace Hand Beaded Silk yarn. I ordered all the colors – it will
be here soon. Can’t wait.
Manos – in addition to their Classica, Lace, Silk Blend and Serena, we will also have Maxima, a worsted
weight single-ply yarn that comes in the most vibrant colors.
Mirasol – Miski is a 100% llama worsted weight yarn that is so soft – it has to be squeezed.
Noro – Noro put their Silk Garden Lite back into production. It’s a DK weight yarn, which I think needs no
introduction.
Plymouth new Superwash Merino DK in lots of great colors; Bazinga is a bulky wool/acrylic blend; Juli is an
alpaca/nylon blend with a little bit of glitz in natural colors; Malizia is another bulky wool/acrylic blend with
lame in subtly shaded colors.
Prism - Delicato is a laceweight tencel yarn in bold hand dyed colors.
Skacel – Woolie Bullie – a sheepy looking boucle yarn great for trims. Wunderkleckse is a tie-dyed sock
yarn with great color combos. Opus 1 is a single-ply, extremely soft, multicolored yarn infused with
Jojoba – at 208 yards/skein, one skein makes a great scarf. Kid Pailettes is a kid mohair/silk blend with
pailettes already in the yarn! Murano is a chunky self-striping wool/acrylic blend with tons of yardage.
Filisilk is a laceweight wool/silk blend that is so soft.
Sublime – Lustrous Extrafine Merino DK is a new yarn – this merino/nylon blend sparkles and has its own
pattern book; Cashmere Merino Silk DK – got all the baby colors for this yarn; Woolly Merino is a bulky
merino/nylon boucle yarn.
Tahki Stacy Charles – Tara Tweed is a supersoft lightweight 4 ½ st/inch yarn; Melody is a chainette wool-
blend multicolor bulky yarn that self-stripes. I’ve got some great patterns for this yarn. Taos is another
self-striping wool/nylon blend yarn that knits up quickly. Beautiful selection of colors. Zara Plus is a
machine washable merino with great stitch definition. Sportswool is a DK/Sport weight machine washable
wool with great pattern support. Filatura di Crosa’s Alpaca is a soft lightweight alpaca/merino blend with a
broad range of colors with 220 yards/skein. Velure is a bulky velvety-chenille superwash yarn that is great
for garments or trims. I also couldn’t resist getting Nirvana, a mercerized merino wool that is extra soft
– laceweight, machine washable. Moda should be here soon. It’s a tape-like yarn that spreads into a net-
like fabric and you can make a great looking scarf in less than a day.
The Fibre Company – Acadia is the newest yarn --- it’s a special blend of merino, alpaca and silk in the
most gorgeous, subtle colors.
Viking – Balder is a multi colored superwash bulky wool in lots of kid-friendly colors.
CLASSES
If you want to work on a new project and need a little help, come to Project night/day which is the same
time as the Learn-to-Knit Afghan class on Tuesdays at 1 pm, 7 pm, Friday at 10 am and Saturday at 10
am. There’s always a great group of gals (and guys) knitting or crocheting.
